7 Ways To Make Your Site Load Faster

The time it takes a site to load is a deciding factor of whether readers will read the contents of the blog/site or not. Nobody has the patience to wait(unnecessarily long) for your blog to load, so what happens is, readers just navigate quickly out of your blog if you make them wait too long; even though you might have the best content on the web. In this article, I will show you some some simple ways you can use to make your blog load faster:
  1. Reduce the number of images: having so many media files on your blog will increase the wait time for your blog to come up. Avoid using images when they are not necessary. But it you must use image, consider point 2.
  2. Optimize images: Before you publish images on your blog, open them in a photo editor and use the "save for web" option (most photo editors have this option). This will compress the size of the image which in turn reduces the time needed to download it.
  3. Keep out Unneeded Plugins: Yes! in truth it might be cool to have so many beautiful plugins lying around on your blog, but as yourself, :"do I really need these plugins?". Do a check on all the plugin you have on your blog, group them into two, i.e those that you must have and those that you don't really need. Plugins are a sure time killer. (read:A search bar widget, do you need it?)
  4. Reduce the number posts on your homepage: In blogger, you can set the number of posts you want to display on the homepage. 5 or 7 is not a bad idea. This will reduce the amount of content to be downloaded when your blog loads and of course makes your blog loads faster.
  5.  Do not display full content on homepage: have your blog just display the introduction of a post on the homepage, instead of having to load all at one. Using the "read more" or something related which the reader will click on to view the full article.
  6. Keep scripts at the bottom of the page: if you need to add some JavaScript code or third- party script to your blog, make sure to put the code at the bottom of the tag of page. Since most scripts are not meant to be used directly when the page loads, it will ensure that your page loads first before it starts calling on the scripts.
  7. Host images and media files with third-party: in some cases, if you need to have large media files on your blog, it is just save to have them hosted on third-party site and you just reference them with a link. This way, your page will only have to load the link but not the file itself.
The above points are quick fixes to help you make your blog faster and increase user experience on your blog. Is there anything you would like to say on this article? Let me hear from you.
