Blogging With Blogger; A wise decision?

By Elusoji Sodeeq   Posted at  3/31/2014 06:39:00 AM   Blogging tips No comments
Sometimes back, i wrote an article on  10 smart reasons why you should choose blogger as your blogging platform and I believe those points are really smart. However, as good and kind as blogger seem, it also has its flaws.
As for me, the only major disadvantage I find with Blogger is the fact that your Blog does not belong to you, rather, it belongs to Blogger.
This means that as long you are on the Blogger platform, Blogger owns your blog and she can do whatever she likes with it like deleting your blog without prior notice. But the good thing is: you can always backup your blog from time to time so you  do not loose all your hardwork totally.
But again, if you do not infringe on any of the terms given by Google, I see no reason why your blog would be taken down.
Now over to you.
What are the flaws you think Blogger's got, share and let others learn.

12 Hot Tips For Turning Visitors To Readers

By Elusoji Sodeeq   Posted at  1/21/2014 08:22:00 AM   good content No comments

Conversion is one thing every blogger attaches importance to, be it conversion of visitors to readers, readers to subscribers, subscribers to customers et all. However, before we go deeper, I would like to talk about converting visitors to readers (loyal readers at that), because that's where it all starts from. As always

don't forget to call me to order wherever i get it wrong.
Visitors are people who are just visiting your blog for the first time, while readers are those who have become ardent or constant visitors of your blog. How do you now make first time visitors become loyal readers, read on to find out.

  1. What is your Blog about?
The first one or two seconds a new visitor spends on your blog is what will determine whether they will read your blog or not. Within this short period of time, a visitor needs to get the clear picture what your blog is about.
A brief intro as to what you blog about will do just fine, just to make sure the visitor knows where she is.
  2. Provide good information:
Most people will be coming to your blog for the first time mostly because they are searching for a particular information. How do you make sure they actually stay on your blog? Simple, provide them with the information they need, and they sure will keep coming back for more.
  3. Add Value:
At the end of every post you compose, ask yourself, have i added any value to my reader? If you can find a good answer to this question, then definitely your visitor will have a positive answer to. People love to read things that add value to their lives, and if you're able to do that, why won't they keep returning to your blog for more.
  4. Communicate:
Your blog is as good as waste if visitors can not understand what you are saying. The rule here is to keep things as simple as possible. Nobody is interested in how sound your vocabulary is if it's not going to solve their problem.
  5. Interact With the Visitor:
For Heaven's sake, this is not  your school essay. Common friend, you're talking to humans not some robots. Let your posts involve your readers and you.
  6. Avoid annoying Pop Ups:
Pop ups can be very annoying especially when it affects usability and readability. You don't want to scare visitors away after their visit to your blog, do you?
  7. Keep a Simple URL Structure.
  8. Provide Search Bar:
  9. Make Navigation simple and Easy.
  10. Provide Links to Valuable Resources.
  11. Scannable Content
  12. Have A Nice Looking But Simple Design Layout.

12 Steps Towards Creating A Successful Blog

By Elusoji Sodeeq   Posted at  12/18/2013 09:29:00 PM   Blogging tips No comments
Countless number of blogs is created daily around the world, and the competition is so stiff that one begins to wonder if a “new blog” can even succeed at all. Well, I can also tell you that so many blogs die out after about a month of inception and just a few of them make it through to the land of success. How do you make you blog one those few that succeeds? That is exactly what you will learn by the end of this article. This post will show the 12 ultimate steps you need to take in order to create a successful and standout blog.
1.    Purchase A Domain Name:
If you want to get serious about blogging and you intending to build a brand rather than just another blog, a top level domain name is a must for you.
Whenever you create a blog with the blogging platforms available, you are given a domain which is a subdomain of those platforms. For example, Blogger gives you something like myblog.blogspot.com, while wordpress gives you myblog.wordpress.com. Having you blog hosted on a sub domain makes your blog look unprofessional and also reduces the importance people give to your blog.
These free platforms offer you a way with which you can host your blog on your top level domain, either by purchasing directly from them or purchasing from another domain registrar and redirecting your blog to it.
Another major downside of using a subdomain for your blog is that, it  makes it difficult (impossible even) to move your blog from one platform to another.
So, get a domain name if you want to be taken serious as blogger. You can purchase domain name(s) from domain registrars like Godaddy or Hostgator or from the blogging platform you use.
2.    Choose A Good Blogging Platform:
The two most popular blogging platforms are Blogger (owned by Google) and Wordpress (owned by the Automattic and powered by the open source wordpress software). Of course there are other blogging platforms (some free and some paid) but these two are the most popular and most used.
The debate of “which is better between these blogging platforms” is one which will never end especially among their users. Before you create a blog, set to and make research about your choice of platform and see how well it suites you.
3.    Choose A Niche For Your Blog:
Niche is the target market of your blog. i.e. the type of audience that will read your blog. Deciding a niche for your blog can seem to be a very daunting task, but it need not be. Examples of niche include:
·         The food niche
·         Travel niche
·         Fashion niche
·         Automobiles
·         Technology
·         Health
·         Fitness and a whole lot more.
If you are finding it difficult to decide on which niche to blog about, here are some tips that can be of help:
·         Blog about something you are passionate about.
·         Blog about something you are very good at.
·         Is there a popular problem you know people would like to get solutions to?
·         You can blog about you field of study
·         You can even blog about yourself.
It is important that you research you niche of your choice well, know who, what where your audience are and what they need. This will guide you towards creating relevant information and make them loyal to you. When you are able to solve their problems, they will always keep coming back for more.
4.    Get A Good Design Template:
The look of your blog also plays a key role in the success of your blog. If you are a design oriented person, you can design your blog by yourself, or get a nice looking template and customize it to your taste, but if not, it is a worthy investment for you to hire a professional to do so for you.
The overall design of your blog is as important as the quality of the content of your blog. We are in a generation of click and go readers. Most people won’t wait to view the content of your blog if you do not have an attractive looking blog.
Mind you, a well designed blog does not just mean beautiful but also includes properties such as: easy navigation, fast load time, well structured etc.
5.    Create Unique And Quality Content:
After you must have fulfilled all the above steps, the next step is to start putting quality and relevant information on your blog. First, to create quality content, you need to get the “copy-paste” mentality off your head because honestly, it will do your blog no good.
Unique content doesn’t necessarily mean a never-before-seen content, but it means reinventing the wheel in a creative manner. Plagiarism defeats the purpose of blogging which I believe is to express your creativity. Before I write posts, I take time to read related blogs and generate ideas from them, but this doesn’t mean our content will be the same.

Creating quality and unique content will earn you loyal readership, make your blog a friend of search engines and also positions you as an authority in your niche.

Difference between a website and a blog

By Elusoji Sodeeq   Posted at  10/04/2013 09:16:00 PM   Blogging tips No comments

Is there really any difference? you may want to ask, yes there is and also, there is not.
What prompted me to write this post was when someone asked me this question which I found interesting to answer.
Basically, a blog is a type of website but with a different kind of format. A blog is more of an online diary. A blog is updated on a regular basis (may be many times a day, once a day or even weekly). Blogs are usually updated by writing articles to fill the the blog, these articles are called "posts".
Usually, a blog is mostly free and easy to set up, requiring little or no knowledge of web design skills.
Popular Platforms for blogging include blogger.com , wordpress.com and tumblr.com. Blogger is absolutely free and the easiest to use, especially for a complete newbie. You can read on how to create a blog with blogger here.
A blog may be updated by an individual or a group of people(authors). Some blogs provide information on general topics while some are based on specific topics (usually called niche blogs). A blog is quite easy to maintain, considering the fact that you have little back end stuffs you have to carry out on the blog and also little or no cost to run it. But I advise to get a custom domain for your blog, to at least make it professional.
Blogs also encourage interaction between the author of the blog and its readers. A blog can be created separately or integrated as part of a static website.
On the other hand, a website is a collection of static pages (although, that is changing recently), displaying specific information. A website is mostly used for professional or official purposes. Like showing information about a company. But today, we are having a lot of dynamic websites or social forums where contents are also updated regularly, therefore, almost reducing the distinction between blogs and websites.
Many bloggers actually blog for the fun of it, and they enjoy the joy of been able to pour out their mind on the internet. And even, some bloggers go as far as making money from their blogs. Some even turned blogging to their full time job (though I don't know so many bloggers who have done this). Read: How to make money blogging.
Let me also add that, most blogs are specifically created to solve a particular problem or the other. Readers can check in, look for the information they want, read it and comment.
Blog and websites do have a lot in common, but they are meant to serve different purposes.
I hope I have been able to clear your doubts concerning blogs and websites now?
Your turn: it is time for you to have your say. Let's talk.

How long should a blog post be?

By Elusoji Sodeeq   Posted at  10/01/2013 01:30:00 PM   Blogging tips 2 comments
How long should my blog posts be? is a question many beginner bloggers

ask.
Well, in as much as most people say: " there is no particular answer to

that question",  I think I have found the right answer to that question.

My answer is that "it depends". Not what you think right? I guess I

haven't really provided answers to your question, huh?. So, it depends on

what?
It depends on almost everything,  if I may say.
Truly, there is no fixed rule as to how long a blog post should be, but

there are certain factors that you need to consider in deciding the length

of a blog post.
One thing you should know is that, if you can get your message across in

just 200 words, then fine, you are good to go. On the web today, with

almost countless number of blogs, you find blog posts with varying number

of words ranging from as less as 25 words(you are probably surprised

right?) to as much as 1000 words or even more.
David Vandagriff -popularly known as "the passive Guy" is of the biggest

bloggers so to say. What does he do? He posts excerpts from articles or

books, let's say about a sentence or a single paragraph, and that's all.
You can over to his blog at thevoice.com to see for yourself.(Interesting,

that is.).
So, enough of stories, how long should a blog post be?
I already said earlier that if you can get your message across in about

200--250 words, that's OK, but let's look more into it.
Generally today, most people who read blogs are busy people or don't just

have time to  sit down and read just one heck of a long post(considering

countless number of other blogs they have to read), so what do they do?
They just scan through your blog post to look for what they want.

That's it. What should you do? Be as succinct and as brief as you can also

making sure you include the necessary information in your blog post.
What if you must write a lengthy post?
To me, I would say that's very good and advantageous to you, how?
That would be a great avenue to break the long post into pieces

and create a series of posts, which implies that you won't run out of

content(at least not anytime soon) and you are sure to have your readers

come back for the rest of the story.
The key point I want you to hold is that, no matter what the length of

your post is, pass valuable information across to your reader.
Oh! and there is one more thing you need to consider, SEARCH

ENGINE. Considering the fact that search engines need enough information

when crawling your blog posts, I would advice you make your blog posts, at

least between 300-500 words.
I hope this information helps you in deciding the length of your blog

posts.
Time to hear from you. How long do you make your blog posts, and

what is the average you set for yourself? Let's talk.

Common Mistakes Beginner Bloggers Make And How To Deal With Them

By Elusoji Sodeeq   Posted at  8/21/2013 05:32:00 PM   Blogging tips No comments
Common mistakes bloggers make
Common mistakes most beginning bloggers make and how to avoid them.
In today's post, I will be talking about some of the most common and

simple mistakes most bloggers make. These mistakes if not properly

addressed, may hinder the success of your blog and you as a blogger.
1)You want to make money quick:
Most people seem to see blogging as a platform of making quick

money online. Well, if that is what you have in mind, am sorry to tell you

that you have to look else where. Although, in the long run, your

blogging handwork might start to pay dividends but it takes a lot handwork

and perseverance.
Suggestion:If you are just starting out to blog and all you have in mind is to make money,

it is not too late to dumb it. Focus on providing quality and important

information to people who need it.
2)You focus more on quantity rather than quality:
Creating a post once in a week which provide solution to people's

problem is better than posting crap daily on your blog just for the sake

of having content on your blog.
Suggestion: If you want to write a post, research the topic of your post

well and make sure you provide valuable information in your post.
3)You are too eager to hit the "publish" button:
Many bloggers don't take the time to review and edit their posts

before publishing their posts. During the cause of writing and typing, we

tend to commit some errors like some typos and grammatical blunders.

Errors can keep readers away from reading your blog.
Suggestion: After you must have carefully researched and gotten your blog

post reading for publishing, wait for a moment, read your post all over to

check for some common errors you might have committed. You can read it out

aloud or even go the extra mile by asking someone else to proof-read your

post before you publish it.
4)Procrastination:
For bloggers, i regard procrastination as a disease rather than a

mistake. Seriously, if you procrastinate a lot, your blog might be heading

for its doom. For example, after writing your blog post, you pend too much

time editing it, you are waiting for your post to be prefect before you

publish it or you spend a lot of time brainstorming ideas for your nect

blog post.
Suggestion:Get up now, pick up your pen, pen down your thoughts, briefly

review it and publish it. You will be surprised at who is out there

waiting to read your posts.
5)You are too tired to promote your blog:
You are solely responsible for promoting your blog, or you can

hire someone else to do that for you if you've got the money to spend. No

platform is too small or too big to market and promote your blog. Most

bloggers find it hard to market and promote their blogs especially if they

are not getting results. But I would like to inform you that for your blog

to get the recognition you want, little is not enough.
Suggestion: Make use of every opportunity that comes your way to tell

people about your blog. Make use of social media. Social media is one of

the core tools your blog needs to survive.
6)You are too impatient:
The reason why a lot of blogs fail barely after one or too months

of starting out is because most beginning bloggers gets too impatient over

time especially if their hard-work is not yielding results.
Suggestion:You need to understand the fact that a successful blog is

something that takes time to build. It requires you to pump in as much

effort as you could. Only after certain period of time and effort will you

start getting results. I understand that it can be really frustrating

trying so hard to get people to your blog but not getting results.
Well, I hope I have provided some useful information in this posts.
What are the mistakes you have made as a blogger and how you dealt with

them, I would love to hear from you. Thanks for taking your time to read

my post.

Tools to help you trap your ideas

By Elusoji Sodeeq   Posted at  8/15/2013 09:07:00 PM   Blogging tips No comments

As a blogger or writer generally, there are some certain moments when you get inspired and you just want to start pouring out your ideas. But unfortunately, these inspirations come when you least expect them like :when you are in a bus, walking, in the bathroom or hanging out with friends. But the bad thing is, if you don't pen down these ideas as they come, they might be forgotten and might never be gotten back. So, I came up with some tools I think are very useful in trapping these ideas as they come and these are also what I use.
A small-sized diary and a pen.
A pocket-sized diary that you can carry around easily.
The voice recorder on your phone.
Your phone is a very useful tool for helping you capture your ideas as they come. May be you are hanging out with friends and a new idea just popped up in your mind, you can just turn on the voice recorder and say your to your phone. You will all agree with me that, it is easier to talk than it is to write.
Windows Notepad.
Are you working on your computer and just recieved that powerful inspiration? Windows notepad is there for to type all you want.
Your head is not there for nothing, bro!
In as much as you might want to make use of other tools, your brain is still a perfect tool for storing ideas, afterall, "a human's brain", they say "has more capability than a computer".
What tool(s) do you use to capture your ideas for your next write up? let's hear from you.

Things to do before publishing your blog post

Now, you've gone past the hassle of trying to find new ideas for your post, writing and typing it. And the next thing on you rmind now is to hit the "publish" button, hey! wait, not yet. There are somethings that you need to do before hitting that button.

  • Take time to Edit and polish Your post :

Check your post all over to see things that need to be removed or added. Perhaps, a particular sentence needs to be reconstructed, a better alternative for a particular word.
  Look for spelling errors;

When typing or writing, it is usually almost inevitable to commit typos 'offences'. When you are done with your post, take time to check all over to see some words you might have spelt wrongly. Use the autocorrect tool for words you are not sure of.

  • ` Look for grammatical errors.

You might not be as good as that English guru next door, amd might not be able to perfect your writeup. But hey! you can reduce grammatical blunders to the bearest minimum. Your readers might move on to the next blog if they are trying too hard to decipher what you intended writing. You can give your write up to someone you know is better for review to at least point out the obvious errors.

  • Are your links working?

Using anchor links in your post is a very good practice and important tool to help users take a look around you blog. After you are done putting up you post, use the "test link" feature link in blogger to see if all your links are pointing to the right resource.

  • Hey, did you repeat something?

Before publishing your blog post, check all your major points to make sure you are not repeating any point. You don't want to bore your readers reading the same thing over and over again.

  • Lastly; Review your post:

After putting all the above points into consideration, then do a final cross checking.
Now, You are free to hit that "publish" button you are  so eager to click.

8 tips to help you make it as a blogger

By Elusoji Sodeeq   Posted at  8/08/2013 09:16:00 PM   Blogging tips No comments
In this article, i will talk about my compiled list of 8 points i think every blogger should take note of in order to make it as a blogger.
Read:Eight Things To consider before starting a blog
Eight things to consider before starting a blog- Part 2
25 things to blog about.html
  •        Create a distinct style:
Be unique in the way you write. Let your readers be able to identify your
posts from amongst a list of many others. It's becoming so obvious and
boring that almost all bloggers write with the same pattern, so you need
to create a style that will make you unique and differentiate you from
others.
  •        You Need To Reinvent the wheel:
Did I just say "reinvent the wheel? Oh yes i did. As a blogger, you will
hardly find new and original content; so what you will be doing is using
the available ones and modify them uniquely. Being unique is very
important and distinguishes you from others. No doubt, you will reinvent
the wheel, but do that stylishly. and don't forget, if you directly
copying content from another source, give credits to the original poster.
  • Take Note Of The Basics:
Take time to learn the basics about blogging and about your blog. You
don't jump into blogging one and expect to make it big like some
sensational bloggers. Spend time on checking the design of your blog,
learn SEO, learn how to use social media to leverage traffic into your
site and you will be surprised at how rapid your blog will grow - rather
than just sit and start thinking how sites like about.com, problogger.net
and the likes made it.
  •   Be Patient:
You need to realize the fact that you are not the fact that at the time
you are setting up your blog, there are many others who are also doing the
same. So, to start seeing and getting results, it takes time and you need
to be patient if you don't want to be like every other -start-and-die
blogs out there. 10,000 daily page views won't just start in a day, it
takes a lot of hard work and persistence.
  • Be Creative:
No doubt, creativity is an important asset for every bloggers. Instead of
looking at the bad side of something and just think of dumbing it, think
of how you can tweak it and make it suit your purpose.Believe me, when you
are creative enough, you will find out that nothing is actually a waste.
  • Face Competition:
You need to look at what your competitors are doing and think of a way to
be better than they are. Mind you, you need to keep the competition
healthy. What do i mean by this?
Don't be overwhelmed by the success of your rival bloggers and wishing you
are exepriencing the same. Just focus on creating quality content and
satisfying your readers.
  • Don't limit yourself:
I tell you, you 've really got the ability, its in you. The only one who
can stop you from making it big is yourself. Don't be too lazy, get up
from that couch now, and start something. Don't hold yourself back , but
rather expend your energy into your blog. Get rid of the doubting Thomas
spirit in you and put your ability to work.

My photo
Hi, i am Elusoji sodeeq, I run this little home - #sdktalks#. I am a young student, software programmer and an entrepreneur and I also co-found an IT startup. I don't like to talk (too much) neither is writing my passion (but I write well when I need to). I am multi passionate and :- My passions are my hobbies and my hobbies are my interests, and my interests are my life. Which makes me love my life. There isn't so much to know about me, but you are always free to talk to me.
