How To Set Custom URL For Blogger Posts

By Elusoji Sodeeq   Posted at  11/23/2013 07:43:00 PM   blogger tutorial No comments

Anytime you publish a new post in blogger, Blogger automatically creates a URL address for the post using the title of the post. Usually, it uses this format by default :your blog url(e.g www.sdknaija.com)/the current year(2013)/the current month(11)/the title of the post.
For example, the title of this post is :"How to set custom Url For Blogger Posts", the URL which blogger will use for this post will be :http://www.sdknaija.com/2013/11/how-to-set-custom-url-for-blogger-posts.html

While this might be Ok, however, there might be any reason while you like to change the post's URL, maybe for SEO purpose or for whatever reason I can't think of, it is very easy to change the post URL and set it to whichever you want. (note that you can't change the date of the post, just only the part after the date).
In a very few number of steps, you are done already.
Step 1:
Log in to your blogger dashboard.
Step 2:
Click on the "New Post" button to create a new post or open an existing post for editing.
Step 3:
Mover to the right right side of your blogger editor, and click on "Links" tab. Here, you will see the URL that blogger created for your blog post and an "automatic Permalink" option ticked.

Step 4:
Click on the "Custom Permalink" button, then you will see a text box where you can enter your desired post URL:

Step 5:
Save or Publish or Update your post, and there you have it.
Your blog post will now appear with the URL you have set for it.

Caution: if you are changing the URL of a post you have already created and saved, you need to take note of the old URL because you will need to do a redirect(i.e redirect from the old URL to the new one). This is because this old URL might have been indexed by search engines and might have been bookmarked by your readers.

So to make sure you are not loosing any traffic as a result of this, we will need to do the redirect. In the next tutorial post, I will show you how to redirect in Blogger.

I do hope you find this tutorial useful.
